Fall Colors!

7 days
September 19 - 25, 2008

DAY 1
We’re Michigan-bound today as we stop for our morning coffee & roll break in western Wisconsin. We’ll then continue east making a lunch stop (on your own) and an afternoon break en-route to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the city of Manistique. We’ll check into our hotel overlooking Lake Michigan, and after time to refresh you’ll be free to have dinner on your own.

DAY 2
Following our included breakfast, we’ll drive to Tahquamenon Falls, enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. After taking in the falls we’ll head to Whitefish Point to visit the 1849 Lighthouse Station and the Shipwreck Museum, where you’ll see underwater film of the Edmund Fitzgerald as she lies on the bottom of Lake Superior. The museum also houses many other artifacts and exhibits about Lake Superior. We’ll stop for lunch (on your own) then arrive mid-afternoon at our hotel in St. Ignace, Michigan for our 2-night stay. Our hotel overlooks the Straits of Mackinac which connect Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.  This evening we’ll enjoy our included outdoor barbeque dinner overlooking the water.

DAY 4
An included breakfast starts our day, then we’ll board the ferry to Mackinac Island. Upon arrival we’ll enjoy a horse-drawn carriage tour of this spectacular island, followed by a memorable lunch at the Grand Hotel. There will be time to browse the shops on Market Street before our ferry departs for St. Ignace.  The remainder of the afternoon and evening will be free to relax, walk along the lake, or take an optional visit to the Kewadin Casino

DAY 3  Following included breakfast, we’ll cross “Mighty Mac,” the 5-mile-long suspension bridge that connects St. Ignace to Mackinaw City. We’ll tour Colonial Michilimackinac, the site of the old fort built by the French in 1715 and occupied by the British from 1761 - 1781. You’ll have time to explore the many displays and buildings prior to heading into Mackinaw City for time to browse the shops and have lunch (on your own).  Later this afternoon we’ll head to Sault Ste. Marie, MI and check into our hotel for the next 2 nights

DAY 5  This morning after our included breakfast, we’ll board the Algoma Central Railroad for a day-long tour of the Agawa Canyon. The Algoma Railroad winds its way through an immense stretch of unspoiled wilderness for some wonderful photo opportunities. The fall colors should be gorgeous!  You’ll enjoy an included box lunch on the train

DAY 6
This morning after included breakfast, we’ll tour the Soo Locks by boat. You’ll enjoy seeing how the large ocean freighters are transported through the locks between Lake Huron and Lake Superior. Then we’re off west across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and its beautiful scenery to Green Bay, Wisconsin. After checking into our hotel, you’ll have time to refresh before our included farewell dinner.
