Autumn in New England - Fly Including New York City and Boston
Featuring the beautiful fall colors of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and upstate New York.

10 Days
October 2 - 11, 2008

DAY 1  We’ll be transferred to the Minneapolis/Saint Paul International Airport to board our flight to New York City. After claiming our luggage we’ll board our waiting motorcoach, make a lunch stop (on your own), and then enjoy our guided tour of the “Big Apple.”  We’ll see and hear about the sights we’ve always heard about including Chinatown, the Financial, Garment and Theatre Districts, Rockefeller Center and a view of Ground Zero. We’ll then check into our hotel for the next 2 nights, where we’ll enjoy our Welcome Dinner.

DAY 2  An included breakfast starts our day, then we’re off to board the ferry to the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island, and also to Ellis Island National Monument, now a memorial to the millions of immigrants who came through Ellis on their way to their new homeland. Later we’ll head to the Theater District for dinner on your own, before taking our reserved seats for our Broadway Show (to be announced).

DAY 3  After our included breakfast we’ll head north along the Atlantic Coastline to our morning break in Mystic, CT. Early this afternoon we’ll arrive in Boston, Massachusetts for our lunch stop (on your own). This afternoon we’ll enjoy a guided tour of Lexington and Concord, where the story of the “Shot Heard Round the World” will unfold before our eyes. Following our tour we’ll stop at the Wayside Inn (where famous poet Henry W. Longfellow wrote “The Wayside Inn”) for a special New England Dinner.  We’ll then check into our hotel for our 2-night stay.

DAY 4  Following our included breakfast we’ll depart for our guided tour of historic Boston and the “Freedom Trail.” You’ll see for yourselves why John Winthrop and 800 colonists chose to establish a settlement here in l630.  We’ll see places critical to the history of the American Revolution: the site of the “Boston Massacre,” the harbor where the Boston Tea Party took place, the Old North Church, Paul Revere’s home and the Old State House. We’ll stop for lunch (on your own) at Quincy’s Market during our tour. Later we’ll return to our hotel with the evening free.

DAY 5  This morning we’ll head north to the historic city of Gloucester, MA, where we’ll stop for a photo opportunity at the Fisherman’s Memorial, with time to browse the waterfront area. We’ll continue north along the coastline to our included lunch, which will be memorable: our menu includes Maine chowder and lobster, and our tables overlook the Atlantic Ocean. This afternoon we’ll pass through beautiful scenery and quaint towns as we continue north to Kittery, the oldest town in Maine.  We’ll view former President George Bush’s home as we drive through Kennebunkport.  Tonight we are staying right on the ocean at Old Orchard Beach, Maine. The evening will be free to have dinner on your own.

DAY 6  This morning we’ll enjoy our included breakfast while gazing at the ocean. Then the fall colors become brilliant as we enter the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where our first stop is to tour the “Castle in the Clouds,” a mansion built at the turn-of-the-century. The Castle’s interior beauty is surpassed only by the magnificent view of the Ossipee Mountains, Lake Winnipesaukee and Squam Lake (site of the movie On Golden Pond).  We’ll then drive across the Kancamagus Highway, once an old Indian trail, and north through Franconia Notch to our overnight in Quchee, Vermont.

DAY 7  An included breakfast starts our day then we’re off for a full day of touring. The fall foliage promises to be gorgeous again as we cross Vermont and upstate New York.  We'll stop at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill for a tour and some shopping time prior to arriving in Burlington, Vermont for lunch (on your own). Then we’ll board the ferry to cross Lake Champlain to Port Kent, New York.  We are bound for Lake Placid, New York, which boasts the highest peaks of the Adirondacks and the site of the l932 and l980 Winter Olympics. Upon arrival we’ll check into our hotel with the evening free to enjoy this lovely city.

DAY 8  Lake Placid Village will occupy our attention this morning during a guided tour of this lovely city which lies on the shores of two lakes, Mirror Lake and Lake Placid.  We'll take time to shop and have lunch (on your own) in the Olympic Village. We’ll then drive south through the Hudson River Valley to Kingston, New York for our overnight.

DAY 9  Following breakfast on your own we’re off for Hyde Park, New York. We’ll tour the library and museum of Franklin D. Roosevelt -- the site consists of more than 200 acres and includes the gravesite of President Roosevelt and his wife, Eleanor. We’ll then continue south through the Hudson River Valley and past West Point, New York, the home of the U.S. Military Academy. The breathtaking views of the scenic Hudson River are a never-to-be-forgotten experience. It’s not far to the Big Apple, where we’ll head for our overnight. After time to unpack and refresh we’ll enjoy an included farewell dinner.

DAY 10  An included breakfast starts our day, then we’re off to board our airplane for our return flight to the Twin Cities, where you’ll be transferred back to your pickup points. The memories of the spectacular fall colors, charm and rich history of New England will be with us forever.
