August 13 - 23, 2008

DAY 1:  This morning you’ll be transferred to the Minneapolis airport for our flight to Boston. After claiming our luggage, we’ll board our deluxe motorcoach and head into Boston for a lunch stop (on your own) at the world-famous Quincy's Market.  This afternoon we'll enjoy a guided tour of the Freedom Trail.  You'll see the Old North Church, site of the Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere's home and the Old State House.  We'll check into our hotel for the night and enjoy a Welcome Dinner at the hotel.


DAY 2:  Following included breakfast, we'll head north through the eastern tip of New Hampshire and into Maine.  We'll take a morning break and lunch stop (on your own), clear Customs at the Canadian border (proof of citizenship required) and enter the province of New Brunswick.  Our destination is Saint John on the Bay of Fundy, where the highest tides in the world occur.  We'll watch Reversing Falls vanish as the tide flows in and the river flows upstream.  We'll check into our hotel for the night, with the evening free to relax and have dinner on your own.


DAY 3:  Early this morning after  included breakfast we'll board the ferry for the 2-hour ride across the Bay of Fundy to Digby, Nova Scotia, where we'll pick up our guide for a tour through the Annapolis Valley and along the Evangeline Trail to Halifax.  After checking into our hotel for the next two nights, the evening will be free to have dinner on your own.

DAY 4:  An included breakfast starts our day, then we'll take guided tour of Halifax before heading south to the historic fishing town of Lundenberg, where you'll have time to explore the harbor area.  On our way back to Halifax, we'll stop at Peggy’s Cove, one of the world’s most photographed places, for time to visit the Lighthouse and enjoy an included dinner overlooking the water. We’ll then return to our hotel for the night.


DAY 5:  Following an included breakfast, we’ll head north, with our local guide for the next 2 days, to Cape Breton Island. Our travels will take us along the shore of beautiful Bras d’ Or Lake as we learn the history and hear the tales of  “The Scotland of North America.” We’ll visit the Fortress of Louisburg, a reproduction of an historic eighteenth century fortress, on the way to Sydney for our overnight. 


DAY 6:  An included breakfast starts our day, then we'll head south to the world-famous Cabot Trail, which winds its way through Cape Breton Highlands National Park.  You will soon learn why this is rated one of the top ten most beautiful islands in the world -- Keep your camera ready!  During our tour, we'll stop at one of the scenic overlooks for an included box lunch.  Later, we'll check into our hotel in Baddeck, with the evening free to relax and have dinner on your own.

DAY 7:  Following an included breakfast, we’ll visit the Alexander Graham Bell Museum.  Later, we'll head back for the mainland, traveling the Ceilidh trail through Margaree Valley to Cheticamp, and through the villages of Inverness and Mabou.  We'll make appropriate photo and break stops prior to returning to the mainland and the city of Caribou, where we'll board the ferry for our short ride to Prince Edward Island.  After checking into our hotel in Charlottetown, you'll be free to relax and have dinner on your own.

DAY 8:  Following breakfast (on your own), our local guide will join us for a tour of the Island, including a visit to the Anne of Green Gables home, Woodleigh Replicas, P.E.I Preserves and Gavendish Beach. Later this afternoon we’ll enjoy a specialty of PEI -- an included lobster dinner -- prior to crossing the new 9-mile Confederation Bridge, the largest continuous-span bridge in the world, to New Brunswick. Upon arrival, we’ll stop to experience Magnetic Hill -- you will not believe your eyes as the coach moves uphill with the engine off.   Then we'll check into our hotel for the night.


 

DAY 9:  After our included breakfast, we'll head east through Fredericton, NB.  We'll stop for a break, then clear Customs and cross back into the United States and head to Augusta, ME for our overnight.

DAY 10:  Following included breakfast, we’ll head back to Boston, Massachusetts and enjoy a guided tour of historic Lexington and Concord and learn the story of the “Shot Heard Around the World.” Before checking into our hotel for the night, we’ll enjoy included dinner at the historic Longfellow’s Wayside Inn.

DAY 11:  Following included breakfast, we’ll head to the Boston airport to board our flight back to Minneapolis, full of the wonderful memories of our tour to the Atlantic Provinces of Canada, and historic Boston.
